The McCandless Project

For this project I decided to go out into public and do something I thought everyone would think is abnormal. A couple of my friends and I went out to public places Kroger and Chipotle, where we thought a lot of people would be. I wore pants on my head, a trash bag as pants with leggings under it, and a swimsuit top over a sweat shirt. I wore these articles of clothing because not many people wear these sorts of things everyday. When we walked into Kroger we got a lot of strange looks, and some people would just look and laugh. We walked around Kroger for about fifteen minutes getting strange looks from almost it seemed like everyone. When we went to go check out the cashier asked if we were having a slumber party, we just told him it was just casual. After we visited Kroger we went to Chipotle. When we got there, almost no one was their but a few people. The people that were there either stared or said something. Some guys made funny puns and someone asked what we were wearing. After we walked out we started walking towards my friends mom’s car and got some random waves from people in there cars. While all this was happening I felt as if everyone was looking at us, because we looked like the biggest outcast with our crazy outfits. I wasn’t really that surprised how the people would react because since people don’t normally do this, I get why a ton of people were staring.  I was surprised by my reaction because after a while I started to not care at all if people were to stare or not. At first I was embarrassed to be wearing all of this ridiculous things but after a while I didn’t care. I believe we are free to break from whats normal. I believe this because I choose freely to dress up differently then everyone else and I could do that with a matter if seconds. I think most people just don’t want to break from whats normal because there afraid of being judged or to be looked at as weird. You can break free of whats normal you just have to be brave and not care that people might think of you differently. Be you, thats all that matters and you can break from the Normal freely.

Into the wild symbol

The symbol "punching the clock" is a reoccurring theme in the book, "into the Wild". "Punching the clock" in general is to live every day the same way. This symbol is important to the story because Chris doesn't like doing the same things every day. He likes to change it up. He likes a challenge. There are many examples in the book stating how Chris doesn't like doing the same thing every day. For example, in chapter five of Into the Wild, Chris writes a letter to Ron saying how changing his lifestyle would bring a lot of joy to Ron. He wrote how Ron lives his day the same way every single day, and how he has to open his eyes and change his life style to see the beauty all around us created by God. This is an example of "punching the clock" in the story, because Chris writes how he strongly dislikes having the same routine every day. He strongly encourages Ron to change from "punching the clock" every day and set out for a new life style. Secondly, a huge example is how Chris constantly changes where he settles down. Throughout the book Chris doesn't just stay in one place for a long time, he travels all the time. Chris is always in a new location every few weeks. This shows how Chris isn't "punching the clock". Chris is always changing up his day and living with a new horizon each day. In addition to changing where he is staying, he also always changed the people he talks to. Alex writes to Jan Burres and Bob, "...This is the last communication you shall received from me. I now walk out to live amongst the wild. Take care, it was great knowing you..." (Krakauer, 69).  This shows how Alex (Chris), didn't "punch the clock" by not always talking to the same people, he changed the people he talked to constantly. He didn't like getting too attached to people so he changed relationships with people often. Lastly Chris tells his friend Ron that he should consider to stop living everyday the same way. Chris writes to Ron, "...The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun... (Krakauer, 57). This shows how Chris wanted Ron to live every day differently and stop following his every day routine, "punching the clock". These are all examples how "punching the clock" is a reoccurring theme in this book.

My quote

My Quote is: "You can't have a better tomorrow if you don't stop thinking about yesterday"-Anonymous
I picked this quote because I really agree with what the quote is saying. In order to have a better day, (tomorrow) you have to forget what you dreaded in the past and keep moving forward. Basically live everyday like a new day. Everyday is a fresh start. This quote represents me as a person because I like to believe that you have to move forward in life in order to have a better day. I believe this strongly because you can't go back into the past, the only thing there is to do is keep moving forward, and everything will be alright. Even though sometimes it's not always easy to follow this quote I try my best to live by it. If I were to live every second of everyday living this quote, my life would be so much simpler. I could just live everyday like a new day and forget the past and be happy about it.
